What makes a happy marriage?
There are plenty of books and articles written about unhappy marriages, but few about happy ones. As a physician married to a physician for 55 years, my husband Joel and I were curious about how other dual-physician marriages fare. As it turns out several studies suggest the relative stability of such partnerships. According to a recent survey, overall divorce rates among dual- physician marriages are only 24% compared to a 42% divorce rate for all first marriages.
In our new book Lessons Learned: Stories from Dual Physician Marriages, 35 self-selected happily married couples share their stories and lessons they’ve learned.

The stories are so inspiring that we’ve concluded that for med students and resident today, marrying a physician colleague could be the best decision they make.
